The Big Move: The Grand Finale

After months of every imaginable kind of stress–financial, physical, mental & emotional–I am at last settled into my new Upper West Side place.  I can’t say, looking back, that it “flew by.”  It was tougher than ten marathons!  But I heartily say it was all well worth it!  A half block from breathtaking Riverside Park, adjacent to the pubs of Amsterdam Avenue & the shops and eateries of Broadway, nearby public transportation and a runner’s paradise…the address is as wonderful as the apartment itself.  The purchase and renovation even intrigued The New York Times, who will profile my story in an upcoming edition of their widely-read Sunday Real Estate section.  Although I’m still waiting on a few important pieces of furniture and art as finishing touches, I wanted to share some of the results with those of you who have been so supportive and enthusiastic via Email & Twitter.

Here’s the Living Room, with a view to my adjacent office.  Soaring windows with tree-top views of the Brownstones across the street.  Northern exposure makes magical light all day long, especially at dusk.

In my office, I have a 10 foot floor-to-ceiling window to enjoy the charming street views while I work underneath my marathon medals, favorite Australian landscapes and painting of Lois.

The kitchen has gorgeous, full sized appliances–unusual for NYC–and plenty of counter and cupboard space. Cherry wood and glass tiles.  I may finally be inspired to get back to cooking!

This is the dining area.  When I get my drop-leaf table and straight back chairs, I’ll be able to start dishing up dinner parties.

The bedroom is pin-drop quiet, with a refreshing cross breeze…a real oasis for sleeping.  Maybe the most comfortable bedroom I’ve ever had!  I’m still waiting on my antique Secretary desk and window shades.  As soon as I catch my breath from all the expenditures, I’m treating myself to new bedding, too!  Notice the subway map art: my recent acquisition from up and coming artist Enrico Miguel Thomas.  I love it!  And of course, Carol Lynley goes with me everywhere!

The bathroom, totally renovated by my Contractor Ziggy, is a work of art that cannot be captured by my camera phone.  It’s too tiny to get a good shot that shows off the magnificent fixtures and tile work from floor to ceiling.  I didn’t know it was possible to fall in love with a sink, toilet and medicine chest…but I am smitten!

Nothing beats having a private outdoor space inside the big city.  The beautifully landscaped and maintained back garden is for use by all the tenants in my building, but I always seem to get it all to myself!  Perfect spot to enjoy reading and/or a glass of wine.

I used to refer to my Los Angeles house as the “Ha-Ha Hacienda,” but I’m certain this new residence will quickly earn that title.  My Home Sweet Home!
