NELSON'S RUNNING

RUNNING REPORT - 2006

baltimore harbor2006 was another memorable year for my recreational running, made even more excited by my acceptance as a sponsored athlete for the inaugural Snickers Marathon Team. I'm hoping they'll be going international in 2007 and allow me to continue to spread their message of nutrition and fitness worldwide. Most of my race participation benefited important charities, the last of which raised almost $4000 for AIDS Project Los Angeles.

I also had the opportunity to travel to some exciting race locations, participate in events with cherished running buddies and meet new likeminded friends. Working with trainers like Victor, Anissa and April also kept me in good condition and I'm looking forward to making even greater strides in the new year.

Off the road, I'm proud to have contributed articles to one of my favorite magazines, RUNNING TIMES, and have optioned the film rights to Marlin Keesler's marvelous book OUR LIFE ON THE RUN--which I hope to develop into a movie.

Here are some of the highlights from my 06 Running Log:

March
*Los Angeles Marathon - Just missed my PR with a time of 4:13:37, but managed to place 3209 in a field of 25,200.

*Reggae Run 10k - 49:15

April
*Loyal Marymount University 10k - Third in my division with a time of 46:30

*A visit to Dublin for "The Afternoon Show" allowed me the opportunity to have some memorable runs around the University's beautiful, green campus!

*Palos Verdes Half Marathon - A PR of 1:47:47!

June
*Camp Pendleton Mud Run 10k - 10th Place in our division with a time of 1:14:29, our Team (Lauren, Ely, Joe and Jill) had some filthy dirty fun on the military base obstacle course!

June
*A trip to NYC to interview the cast of V FOR VENDETTA provided me with some summer morning runs through Central Park and around the reservoir. Beautiful!

*In Australia to cover Nicole Kidman's wedding, I got two ops to indulge in my all-time favorite course around Sydney Harbour, up and down the steps of the famed Opera house and through the Botanical Gardens. Always breathtaking!

July
*City of Cypress 10k - 49:12 and joined by my buddy Rob, whom I'm proud to have "reintroduced" to the joy of running!

August
*Jet to Jetty 10k - 46:07, again with Rob!

Oct
*Achievable 5k - Filmed for SUNRISE, I pulled off 4th place in my division with a PR of 21:58

Oct 31
*Halloween and every comic book geek-turned-runner's fantasy: I was "The Flash!"

Nov 26
*Florence Marathon, Italy - Incredibly beautiful holiday highlighted by this amazing race with a time of 4:22:11

Dec
*New York, New York! - What better way to recover from the marathon than by some wintry runs around Manhattan while there to interview the powerhouse casts of WE ARE MARSHALL and THE GOOD SHEPHERD?! I gave Matthew McConaughey hell for not running the NYC with his pal, Lance Armstrong!
